Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat type of events do you do?We specialize in wedding receptions, private parties, and corporate functions. We also schedule select night club and concert events. We offer an upscale performance at an affordable cost. Our clientele are lovers of great jazz and are specifically looking for something classy and unique for their special event. What kind of music do you play?We play only the best songs from the Swing and main stream Jazz eras. For a typical background performance, we play tunes from “The Great American Songbook” – also known as Standards. For a dance party or social gathering, we play more upbeat Jazz & Swing, plus our own funky versions of Rhythm & Blues hits, Motown, and Soul Jazz jams. How long does your band play?Usually, we play functions that last from two to four hours. The musicians are comfortable playing for an hour or so before needing to take a short break. We usually play two to three sets throughout a typical engagement. How long are your set breaks?Depending on the overall schedule, breaks usually last fifteen to thirty minutes. The band will take breaks between scheduled sets and during toasts and announcements, for example. Do you provide music while on break?Yes, we can provide a sound system – complete with very nice speakers, a microphone, plus a CD player. We play background mix CDs – appropriate for the occasion, or you can supply your own. Can you make announcements?Yes, we’re happy to make general announcements and introductions at your party. However, it’s always best to designate an emcee who is a close friend – like the Best Man for example – if you want an intimate presentation with more personal introductions. What does the band wear? For most formal events, we wear all-black attire. This look is professional and uniform and allows us to remain comfortable while we work. Do you take requests?Only if we know ‘em! Of course, we’re happy to consider learning a song that we don’t already perform – especially for your First Dance. As well, it’s always a good idea to let the band know well in advance if there are any songs in particular you really don’t want played at your reception. As a rule, we politely decline any requests for Novelty Songs or material clearly out of our genre and style. Should food be provided for the band? It’s always a good idea to offer a little something for your vendors if they are to be working fairly long hours at your event, especially over a designated meal time. Providing sustenance boosts energy and morale and is always greatly appreciated by the musicians! How much do you charge?Every event is totally unique and requires careful consideration when staging live music. We factor in everything including the total hours involved onsite, the number of musicians in the band, and the amount of planning, travel, and technical logistics involved. Typically we charge between $1000 and $2500 for a four-hour reception. We offer local budget packages as well as national executive productions. Have more questions?
